The Pome man Cometh

Tue Jul 10, 2007, 12:58 PM
So I've been on and about for awhile now, but not really talking much. I'm mostly trying to get a job elsewhere, preferably a second night job, and have been writing. I've got about 3 pages or so of ideas for where to take Part 2 of my manuscript and am reading "Purgatory" by Dante Alligheri to get some ideas about how I want it to progress. My usual poetry has been popping up, of course, and in it is mostly the worried wanderings of myself living in the world I'm in.

I've been reading through all Roland Barthes' work, having finished "Pleasure of the Text" & "Writing Degree Zero, I'm now working on "Elements of Semiology" and "The Space of Literature" by Blanchot. They're all pretty decent looks into linguistics and the way of writing and understanding reading. Decent critical theory to read up on at least.

Other than that, I've mostly been playing WoW every night or so, working my way into heroic dungeons at long last. Still playing a little bit of BF2 to get my FPS fix. As I do love medic-ing around, as well as some support classing. Hopefully I'll have a new job and can save money to go to PAX in late August so that I can see bands, play games, and just enjoy the game developing world.

Happenstance

Sun Mar 18, 2007, 3:08 PM
So I got 42 pages written for my Winter 2007 manuscript. It turned out alright, I think, and I intend to work on it further when I have the time. For now, I just have to go take another class and deal with that.

I get to see Explosions in the Sky in concert May 5th, so I'm looking forward to that. Beyond that, I'm losing my mind trying to figure out where I'll get the money for surviving if my job falls through. Here's hoping it doesn't turn into shit.

The weeks to come

Sat Jan 13, 2007, 8:32 PM
I probably won't update as often, or maybe I will, since I'm going to be doing an independent contract for class this quarter. Mostly I'll be writing 50 pages or more of material on my free time instead of poetry, though it'll be poetic and heavy form laden. Thought I'd note the fact, since it'll be awhile.

  • Listening to: Explosions in the Sky
  • Reading: Barthes, Saussure, Jameson, Patchen
  • Watching: Heroes, BSG, Bleach
  • Playing: Company of Heroes
  • Eating: junk food & ramen & noodleforms
  • Drinking: chilled tap water

Suggestion for DA and Realization

Thu Dec 7, 2006, 3:07 PM
So I noticed something today, well I've noticed it before, but DA doesn't let you submit .doc files, but it does let you submit .jpegs. I was thinking as to why, and I think it's rather obvious to me now. When you click "expand" on a piece it art, it just renders the image for you that you uploaded. If you had the same thing occur with a .doc file, it'd probably have to open up in Word, rather than on the web site itself, which would mean a download, which would be a security issue.

In any case, it kind of annoyed me, since I end up having to make a lot of "visual" poetry that is basically just me taking a screen shot of my work because the text formatting here doesn't allow for as many advanced procedures. I wanted to submit a piece I did as a final project, that's 5 pages long, but it's got images and extreme amounts of text formatting in it that just won't do as a series of screen shots.

So anyway, if you want to check it out, go here to read the .doc file. I invented a new form of literary structure to produce the final part of it, so whee and all that. Thought I'd share it while I was positive enough to try.
